Precautions for Using MPO Fiber Optic Patch Cord

The development and application of MPO fiber optic connectors play an important role and significance in engineering, greatly promoting the popularity of optical networks and reducing costs. They are widely used in fiber optic communication networks, transmission systems, and CATV networks. In addition, the high-density wiring application of MPO fiber optic jumper has significant importance in engineering practice. The use of MPO patch cord requires a lot of knowledge and skill, and is also a crucial link.

Possible problems with MPO jumper

Guide hole damage

This is mainly caused by the inclined insertion direction of the male head during connection, which leads to scratching of the front end of the male head guide needle. Such damage may directly cause an increase in the value of partial or all channel losses.

End-face contamination

Contamination mainly occurs when the MPO jumper is prematurely removed from the dust cap or is exposed to a non-clean environment for a long time before docking. Such contamination will directly affect the docking performance of the product, making the docking effect unstable, and even cause damage to the opposite end of the connector during docking.

Part mechanical damage

This is mainly caused by the excessive external force during construction. Such damage may not affect the performance in the initial period, but is likely to cause complete failure in the short term.

Cable mechanical damage

This is mainly caused by dragging or unintentional cutting in the construction process. Such damage may not affect the performance in the initial period, but is likely to cause complete failure in the short term.

Precautions for MPO patch cord wiring

To avoid the above damage and improve the wiring connection rate and long-term stability, the following points should be noted during the wiring process:

  • Try to avoid opening the dust cap of the fiber jumper before docking.

  • Try not to remove the dust cap of the adapter interface that has been connected to the adapter panel before docking.

  • In addition to normal docking, do not let the connector grinding end face come into contact with any other objects or scratch it.

  • If there is foreseeable contamination on the end face, MPO patch cord should be cleaned with dedicated cleaning tools or dust-free paper soaked in anhydrous ethanol, and not with tissue, cotton, or ordinary cotton swabs.

  • When docking the connector, confirm the positioning key direction and insert it into the adapter or socket panel axially. Do not repeatedly insert and remove it without observing the end face.

  • When inserting the MPO connector into the adapter, hold the end sleeve of the connector. When removing it, hold the shell of the connector.

  • When bending the cable, maintain a bending radius equal to or greater than 20 times the outer diameter of the cable.

  • When bundling the cable, ensure an appropriate degree of tightness, and the cable sheath should not appear severely deformed.

  • When perforating or threading the cable, use a pushing and pulling method to operate. Do not drag or push the cable forcefully to prevent scratching, skinning or breaking of the cable.
